Speakeasy Spanish is a new twist on an age-old idea: the best way to learn a language is to need it. Linguists call it “immersion”. The problem with learning in the classroom or through an app is that the content is not immediately related to the here and now. When you learn a new language live, it sticks.

Unfortunately, most of us are unable to drop everything and move to a foreign country. So how can you become immersed in a language without leaving your hometown? That's where SpeakEasy Spanish can help by connecting you with local native speakers, as well as other Spanish learners, in a live event designed to facilitate meaningful conversation.

Each event is unique, but the format is typically the same…

-Participants include native Spanish speakers who are learning English and native English speakers who are learning Spanish. 

-There are usually 3 rounds of conversation. 

-Each round lasts approximately twenty minutes. 

-Each round of conversation may be done in pairs or in groups of 3-4 participants. 

-After each round, participants join new partners or groups for the next round. 

-Each participant will have at least one round of one-to-one conversation with a native speaker of their target language.

-The SpeakEasy app guides participants through the entire event, and SpeakEasy staff will be in attendance to assist and join in on the fun.

-Conversations may be in Spanish, English, or both. The events are designed to be approximately 50% in English and 50% in Spanish. However, all participants will be learning and practicing 100% of the time. 

Events last approximately 60 minutes. Participants are encouraged to arrive early for a bite to eat, a drink, and a chance to mingle before the event starts. Most venues typically offer a discount on food and drinks for participants. See individual event information for details.

Events cost $15 per person. Discounts are available for groups of six or more. Participants typically receive discounts on food and drink. See event details for more information.

Nope. We understand that learning a foreign language can be uncomfortable and even a little bit scary. SpeakEasy Spanish events are low pressure. Participants are always free to speak in English or in Spanish. Participants may speak a lot, a little, or not at all. It's entirely up to you.
